Voice Over Internet Protocol
VoIP is short for Voice over Internet Protocol. It's a fancy way to describe cheap phone calls through your broadband connection, not your phone line (landlines are so outdated). With this new generation telephone service being significantly cheaper than calls made using a landline service, you can expect to save up to 60% off your normal landline phone bill.
It may sound high-tech, but in fact it is really easy to use! You can still make phone calls over your existing handsets, and your computer does not have to be switched on. All you do is plug a little box – commonly called "VoIP phone adaptor" - into your normal telephone handset and your broadband modem. Then you can make calls the same as you normally would, of course for substantially less money.
VoIP Advantages Explained
As stated before, the main benefit of using VoIP for phone calls is that it is cheap compared to standard telephone calls. Here are some other benefits:
- VoIP is particularly a less expensive way to make long distance calls. Standard VoIP charges are in the vicinity of two cents a minute for international calls.
- Most VoIP providers allow unlimited free calls to other users of the same VoIP service.
- Another major advantage of VoIP over standard telephone services is portability. Simply bring your internet phone and adaptor or your IP phone with you when you travel, and you are able to connect to your VoIP service anywhere you can access broadband internet. Certainly saves on costly mobile phone calls!
- WiFi phones, will soon be readily available, which means that you won't even need to bring the internet phone, as they will be mobile phone and VoIP capable.
- Because VoIP is an internet service, it connects with other internet services, allowing the user to direct calls to email, for example, and many other amazing features.
- While VoIP has some limitations, mainly in quality of voice, these are rapidly being ironed out with advancing technology, and the service is now very reliable
VoIP is one of the uses for your company’s broadband internet service, and its huge benefits are something, we here at Ring It, strongly advise every business to consider.
